Entry Title: "Lazarus"
Category and Expertise: Editorial-Political, Editorial-Conflict, Non-Professional
Entry Description: This photography project is based on the very delicate concept of Liberty and what it represents.
Focused on the theme of liberty, Lucia Rinaldi’s photographic project and upcoming book, Lazarus, investigate what define the concept of liberty in contemporary society. Looking around the city of New York, Lucia researches acts or situations that can describe liberty. This photographic series tries to illustrate situations where liberty has been denied or corrupted compared with unusual moments of freedom. Individually the photographs evoke powerful responses. However, they achieve the scope of their power only in relation to each other.
Interpretation of images is personal. What one might see as conflict, another might view as joyful moment. There is a fine line between the two, but it is exactly the aim of project Lazarus, deconstructing our certainties and redefine new one, hopefully better than those before. Processes are fluid and often nonlinear. Yet, no matter how expressed, the struggles of betterment are deeply felt by us all regardless of the distinctions of our own stories.
