This was a series of portraits from a personal project that I shot last year in the mountains of West Virginia. I was intrigued by the coal industry and wanted to spend some time capturing the faces and hearing the stories of those that toil every day underground, doing a very dangerous job has been done in these mountains now for over two hundred years. What I learned that this is a brotherhood, a livelihood of shared stories and experiences, of loss and triumph of the human spirit and of community.
