How can it be so beautiful when it shouldn’t be? I explore the titanium quarries of the Zhytomyr region, Ukraine, in my art series. Their area is big, but it’s not enough for the miners. That’s why even villages were under threat. There is the water of wine colour in the quarries and the desert landscapes next to it. Soon, this desert may become familiar to the entire region, as local authorities allocate another 100 hectares of forest for quarries. Experts predict an ecological disaster, all rivers within a radius of up to one hundred kilometres will disappear, and so do the forests.
