Everyday Saints is a series of portraits of the so-called ordinary people - all domestic workers from wealthy Cape Town suburbs. This particular portrait is of the Malawian immigrant Emanuele with his young daughter Martha. Emanuele is a gardener and relies on finding work as a day laborer. Having no certainty about the next day, like many other people in his community, he finds strength in faith. By adding the cloth, I wanted to amplify the sainthood of these people who live in permanent hardship and poverty, as well as hint at the long-lasting impact of horrific colonization in South Africa

Angelika Kollin (b. 1976) is an Estonian Fine Art/Post-Documentary photographer currently residing in Tampa, USA. She is self-taught and engages with her passion for photography and art as a tool of exploration of interhuman connections and intimacy. Angelika's work's honesty and unapologetic directness is caringly softened by the aura of intimate emotions and gracious dignity. She has spent eight years living in African countries (Ghana, Namibia, and South Africa), where she explored the same topics in various cultures and economic conditions.
