Lalibela, Jerusalem In Ethiopia

This is written 7 days after the rebels of Tigray have occupied the city of Lalibela, one of the wonders of humanity. Rituals and religion are the twin fulcrums upon which life in this place spins. I have visited the holy city of Lalibela on many occasions. It is a jump back in time, a photographic journey beyond compare. The churches were carved in the 13th century and painstakingly excavated from the ground itself. Let us hope that passions and wars may continue to respect this mystical place that represents the effort of mankind to overcome the pains of the world.

Harry Fisch has been a photographer for more years than he cares to remember. He has photographically documented more than 40 countries through which he has traveled. Winner of the 2012 World National Geographic Photo Contest (places), and later disqualified, his work has deserved several awards: Two Jury Awards in 2014 at the Grand Prix de la Découverte, finalist in the Sony 2012 World Photo Awards, and selected in 2010 by Photoespaña—possibly the most prestigious Spanish photographic event—in the section “Discoveries”.
