Exploding the palanquin by firecrackers, a religious activity to eliminate disasters and to pray for blessings, has played the most important role in Tiger God’s Pilgrimage procession for centuries. Piles of firecrackers stacked along the streets and alleys. Volunteers served as palanquin bearers, fearlessly withstood the power of explosion. Layers of ashes covered their hair, faces and even all over the bodies. With their eyes and teeth exposed, they become the most noticeable focus of the parade; they are also called “plowing palanquin” as well as “eating firecracker”.
