Discovering the wonderfully vibrant natural and cultural world of Hokkaido, Japan through my lens has been an amazing experience this last year. While I have always enjoyed photography, I embarked on a new creative focus, to explore and capture the Kamui, the spirit of Hokkaido. Photographing the red-crowned cranes in Hokkaido was a highlight of my last year, and I captured some of my favorite images that I have ever taken. It was like stepping back into history and seeing the great Ukiyoe paintings come to life. It was my first time photographing the majestic birds, but certainly not my last.
