My first visit to Japan was in 2022 to meet my one year old Japanese granddaughter Himawri who was born during the pandemic.I had known Japan only through photographers like Daido Moriayama & Shomei Tomatsu.In our travels to Kyoto & Tokyo I noticed quickly how much influence a geographic region, light, spirit and culture influence my photography.The light commanded high contrast and the culture required a more discrete style of street photography rather than the bold aggressive shots I would take of strangers in NYC.These images are part of my award winning book titled EARTH WATER SPIRIT SKY.
