Another Light Now Fills The Sky

A portrait of Estonian Silvija Sirius, on the Bir-Hakeim bridge over the Seine River in Paris. The approach is inspired by the watercolor paintings of Paris that are put up for sale in small shops next to the Seine or on the marketplaces in Montmartre. Often depicting the Eiffel Tower from different angles. For the portrayal I tried to recreate the watercolor effect in a photographic way and I also wanted a hint of the Eiffel Tower in the background. Regarding Silvija, I wanted just a very natural portrayal of who she is, wearing the clothes she enjoys and without too much make-up.

I'm a photographer with a focus on portrait, street, and fine-art photography, and photography is my way of dealing with the world, people, stories, places, experiences. Photography is a therapeutic activity for me in a way, a survival strategy. I use light and shadow to capture what I feel, rather than what I see, and what I feel always takes precedence over what I see in what I do. I'm intrigued by the beauty of solitude, of people and places and in my work, this theme plays a dominant role.
