“Traces in the Wind” explores the remnants left by human presence in nature, capturing how time reshapes what’s been abandoned. Each frame reflects nature’s graceful reclamation of human-made structures, inviting viewers to observe this slow erosion. Aligned with the poetic visuals of Andrew Wyeth's Christina's World and Terrence Malick's Days of Heaven, the series evokes loneliness through vast landscapes and decaying structures. Shot on medium format film, the project creates a melancholic atmosphere, where textures of decay remind us of human transience, as nature quietly reclaims the past.
Begüm Eser is a designer and researcher specializing in urban studies. She is currently a research assistant at Istanbul Technical University (ITU), where she is also pursuing her PhD. Photography, for Begüm, serves as a tool to explore the spatial manifestations of our crisis-ridden world. What began as a method to document urban environments has evolved into a way of observing and understanding the underlying relationships within spaces. Begüm views photography as a 'curtain' that softens the starkness of reality while inviting reflection and contemplation.
