The Tokyo Toilet Project is an urban redevelopment project in Shibuya, Tokyo. It involved the design and construction of modern public restrooms that encourages their use. 17 structures were designed by 16 globally recognized architects using their creative skills to erase the conventional negative image of public toilets to create safe and clean inclusive spaces. Each structure has a distinctive architectural design both inside and out. These images of the architectural interiors are part of a larger body of work on the project.
When creating an image, Ulana is inspired by light, shape, and tone. Her simple, often minimal, compositions present an awareness and a connection with the subject whether it be landscape, portraiture or documentary work. Based in Hong Kong, Ulana's work has been exhibited and published internationally. Her passion is best expressed by a quote from a contemporary photographer: “If I weren’t a photographer, I’d still be a traveler”.
