The Kilauea and Mauna Loa volcanoes erupt simultaneously for the first time in 38 years. A brief break in the cloud cover afforded a view of this landscape from an empty and cold overlook in Hawaii Volcanoes National Park during the Mauna Loa eruption in 2022 which lasted for about twelve days. By capturing this photograph at night under the setting moon, I hoped to convey the surreal and awesome qualities of this scene which was stinking of sulphur, marked by steaming fumaroles, and glowing with lava.
