I present my photographic project on life in a village in Brazil, nestled among the vast sugar cane plantations in the Pernambuco region. This village is just one of many similar places that dot this rural area. Here, people's lives seem suspended and tied to the agricultural cycle of sugar cane harvesting. The prospects for self-improvement are minimal: the only way out for those seeking better living conditions is to leave the countryside, abandoning everything they know.
