Thessaloniki Metro is near completion and test runs are done daily to check and calibrate all automated systems. The image was captured from inside the tunnels during the rare occasions when the electricity on the tracks is off and the trains are moved with the help of locomotive engines. The photo shoot was assigned by the construction managers Elliniko Metro and the Hellenic Ministry of Infrastructure for the 2024 Expo Pavilion and promotional media campaigns.

Pygmalion Karatzas studied Architecture at the Technical University of Budapest, Urban Design at Heriot-Watt University in Edinburgh, and practiced architecture for 12 years. Since 2013 he is focusing systematically on architectural and fine art photography, producing a portfolio of 200 architectural, commercial and artistic projects from Europe, USA and Middle East.
