Protests erupted throughout Peru when President Pedro Castillo was arrested after attempting to dissolve Congress. In the months that followed members from Indigenous communities throughout the Andes travelled to Lima to protest against systemic racism, exploitation, and corruption. The community of Ollantaytambo was one of many communities that made the difficult and dangerous journey to the nation’s capital. The government repeatedly claimed that all the protesters were terrorists. However, the people claimed they deserved to be heard and wanted it known that they were not terrorists.
