Siglufjörður is a remote village. It is a narrow fjord surrounded by steep mountains. Siglufjörður is rarely mentioned until the mid-19th century, when it began to develop into a village. On the other hand, the location does have its advantages. For centuries, it had been surrounded by precious natural resources, particularly in the ocean. It was a short distance from rich fishing grounds, often stocked with cod and herring.
