Mono Lake Tufa is a unique and fascinating natural feature located in eastern California, USA. Tufa refers to the peculiar limestone towers and formations that can be found around the shores of Mono Lake. The tufa towers are formed through a chemical reaction between freshwater springs rich in calcium and the alkaline lake water. As the calcium-rich spring water mixes with the carbonate-rich lake water, calcium carbonate precipitates, forming the unique tufa structures. Mono Lake Tufa State Natural Reserve offers visitors the opportunity to explore and appreciate the beauty of the tufa towers.
