The town of Pwani Mchangani on the east coast of the island is known for its seaweed plantations. Zanzibar is a global hotspot for seagrass biodiversity. Healthy seagrass ecosystems play a vital role in the livelihoods of local people. As the water recedes at low tide, the seaweed is harvested exclusively by women and taken to the beach to dry. They are therefore gardeners of a special kind. In addition to tourism and the extraction of cloves, seaweed is the third largest economic sector.

People on the shores of the Mediterranean Sea. The current situation, everyday life, snapshots - of people for whom everyday life, suffering, joy is written on their faces. Faces that cannot be recreated.
