One of the challenges archaeologist face is preserving those finds or structures deteriorating through time. In the tomb of Dagi in Luxor, during an initial cleaning of the floor, hundreds of wall fragments appeared in the sand and debris. The plaster was in a very fragile condition, so the team restorers decided to consolidate some in situ, some in the outer field lab. They cleaned them using air puffers and soft brushes, and also made individual boxes for each of them. The fragile edges of the plaster layers were consolidated with a solution of 1%Klucel G in 80% ethanol and 20% water.
