I have been working with the Google Photo Sphere/Street View app and my smartphone’s camera in a new way. These images are disassembled and reconstructed 360° scenes that I create by subverting the normal process for creating a digital panorama. They represent what I think of as a new kind of computational photographic “seeing”. Created entirely in-camera -- much like other “straight” photographs -- they are the result of a dynamic interaction between my vision and the camera app’s AI. Instead of depicting the world in a realistic documentary fashion, the finished images playfully bend space and time to create immersive abstract views that reinterpret reality.and are filled with a dizzying sense of beauty and mystery. The finished prints are 102cm x 204cm.
