The women's group "Bol-Boly" is in charge of mangrove reforestation and protection in the community of Djirnda in the Siné Saloum Delta on the sea coast of Senegal. The women make a living by breeding and selling oysters, shrimp and other seafood. "We are willing to do anything that preserves the environment and our dignity" they say. Intact mangrove forests are not only crucial for the livelihoods of thousands of people in the delta, they are also mitigating impacts of climate change by protecting the coastal communities from increasingly severe storm surges, soil salinization, and erosion.
