Hokkaido, Japan. Shinto religion in Japan believes that trees are inhabited by spirits. These spirits are called KODAMA. Some believe that Kodama are not linked to a single tree but can move through the forest. Kodama that are properly worshipped and honored protect houses and villages. Kodama that are mistreated or disrespected bring down powerful curses.
