These are photographs taken over a period of about 10 years, showing the cute and unusual behaviour of the Rhabdoblennius nitidus, which lives in the intertidal zone. The male protects the eggs until they hatch, but the nest where the eggs are laid is exposed to the water at low tide during spring tides. You can't help but want to cheer on the male as he stays in the nest, which is exposed to the summer sun, to take care of the eggs. I have compiled the ecology of the Rhabdoblennius nitidus in this picture book.
