I explore the humanity of my subjects' faces through a carefully structured working process. Our brain is genetically programmed to read the subtleties of the human face in a sophisticated and emotional way. Standing face to face, is the most human of experiences - embedded in our pre-human selves. My images are about the observer and the observed. Photographing people in this intimate way, is an intense personal connection. Seeing one's self in another. A connection relived on viewing the finished images. The feeling that... for a moment I thought I knew you.

David Thompson grew up with a camera in his hand as his father was a keen amateur photographer, and many childhood days and nights were spent experimenting in the family garage darkroom. Since graduating from art school, Thompson has worked as a freelance photographer, and his work has featured across various publications including international editions of Vogue and The New York Times Magazine.
