As a child growing up under Ceausescu's rule, I remember that there were only 2 TV programs, both broadcasting socialist propaganda from 7 in the morning until 12 at night. At that time, as the owner of a Romanian passport, opportunities to travel were rare, except perhaps to a few other socialist countries. Discovering other beautiful places on this earth was almost impossible.
