I took this photo at Vava'u in Tonga. This humpback whale was a sweet boy about 4 months old. A curious calf approached us, flew and tapped his hand on the sea surface. The mother is always on his side. Mom of Humpback whales give birth in warm sea waters and raise without eating and resting until the calf can swim long distances. After that, Mom and Calf begin a long journey into the cold sea for plenty of food.
